Apologies, dear Followers and Readers, for the lack of information since Saturday. Unfortunately in the wilds of Scotland it seems connectivity is not great - it has been impossible to get a good enough signal to do anything.
So, to bring you up to date: We left Lossiemouth on Sunday morning and made our way up to John O'Groats ( a four hour drive) where we got ourselves prepped and psyched up. At 4pm on the dot we started - all of us cycling for the first few miles and then we started the rotations. It was clear from early on that the adrenalin was pumping and I was wondering if maybe we were going too fast too early. Within one rotation we were 40 mins ahead of schedule, but we managed to keep the pace up and arrived at Ben Nevis nearly 4 hours ahead of schedule, at 0300 hrs. We waited until daylight and made a start at 0330, reaching the top at 0630. By 0930 we had breakfasted and were on our way again. It's now 1530 and we are currently going through Glasgow. With the progress so far, we could be reaching Scafell at about midnight tonight! We will need to wait til daylight before we start, so we could have earned ourselves a 2 or 3 hour rest!
Rob appears to be progressing well - last reported position (1545) was 100 miles north of Carlisle, so he's doing amazingly well.
So - all is progressing well at the moment (long may it continue). The weather has been very kind so far. Apart from a short spell of rain during the night, it has held off, which is good. Sleeping conditions are cramped, to say the least and it is impossible to get more than about 40 mins at any one time. Many of us were buzzing so much yesterday that sleep was impossible, so we had little or no sleep in about 24 hours or more.
The first faller, believe it or not, was NOT me!!! Kelvin did a "Jarvo" and overbalanced to the clipped side just as he finished his last leg. Apparantly he rolled so far that he ended up on his back with his legs and bike in the air - I wish I'd seen it!
Well, that's about all for now - I need to get 40 winks and then I'm on the road again.
More to follow.......
Well done guys! Keep it going, I hope the legs hold out! - Beth
